Thursday 6/1 Bloomington Paddle
Author Last Post

After dithering over the forecast levels for the Savage (50-500 cfs and Bloomington 1000-1200 bfs) I decided Bloomington was the more reliable of those two choices.

At noon seven paddlers (Mark, Glen, Bob, Jean, Dave, Wes and Ron) put on the North Branch around noon at a level of 800 cfs. We had the river to ourselves on a picture perfect day. The water was clear and the banks of the river were  dotted with flowering nine bark and mountain laurel. Poison ivy was also abundant and particularly evident when we stopped for lunch. We took off around 2:30 and on were the way home by 3:30.

As a footnote, on Wednesday the Savage had been as low as 50 cfs in the middle of the day and as high as 430 cfs late in the day as woody debris was cleared for the weekend recreational release. It wasn’t clear if they were going to do that again on Thursday. As it turns out, the level stayed around 430 cfs the entire day.
