Conservation Organizations

American Whitewater
The mission of American Whitewater is to conserve and restore America's whitewater resources and to enhance opportunities to enjoy them safely.

American Canoe Association
The conservation activities of the ACA are focused on the issues that most affect paddlers. We fight water pollution because clean water is essential to the enjoyment of paddling. The ACA is constantly involved with both public and private land issues, working to preserve our natural resources and to guarantee paddler access. We also advocate for paddlers on instream flow issues, wilderness preservation, Wild & Scenic designation, user conflicts, and fee issues.

American Rivers
American Rivers is a national non-profit conservation organization dedicated to protecting and restoring healthy natural rivers and the variety of life they sustain for people, fish, and wildlife.

C&O Canal Association

If you are new to the Potomac, you will find that most of our paddling access points are on the Maryland side of the river.  This is thanks to the C&O Canal National Park which runs for 184 miles along the Potomac River from Georgetown in Washington, DC, to Cumberland, Maryland.  The C&O Canal Association has a list of all the access points with descriptions, coordinates and Google map links.

Friends of the Blackwater
The not-for-profit organization, Friends of Blackwater, has been formed to take the Blackwater Campaign to the next level. We must protect West Virginia's scenic "Crown Jewel" from commercial exploitation and degradation so that we and future generations can experience its wild and scenic river, hike the trails of this pristine, natural landmark, fish for trout on its banks, and marvel.

Friends of the Cheat
MISSION :
To restore, preserve and promote the outstanding natural qualities of the Cheat River watershed.

Potomac Conservancy
The Potomac Conservancy is a regional land and water conservation organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the natural, scenic, recreational, and historical qualities of the Potomac River and its watershed lands.

Potomac Riverkeeper
Put simply: Potomac Riverkeeper stops polluters. We do this because the health and safety of our drinking water depends on the health of our rivers and streams. Our success in stopping polluters depends on how we use two very powerful tools: community action and enforcement.

West Virginia Rivers Coalition
MISSION :
To seek the restoration and conservation of West Virginia's exceptional rivers and streams.
