Little Falls - 2.89 - 11 Oct 2020

Gus, Ken Cohen, Tarik Assawi, John and Scott ran Little Falls today at 2.89 with warm water and air and no rain. It was a perfect level for surfing multiple waves in an RPM or shorter boats. John and Scott joined us on the Feeder Canal and said they were CCA members but don't paddle with the club very often. We did not get their last names. Ken tried the Beaver run and had a bit of a problem but recovered. Below Beaver we all had multiple surfs on the next minor rapid. Gus had a good surf on the first major drop, entering from an eddy on the left, but missed the wave at the top of the next major drop, entering from the right side. At Little Falls Tarik followed Ken and Gus down the Maryland side, going to the right of the big hole at the top, but not catching the eddy on the right. John and Scott caught the eddy on the right to decide which way to go. They ending up going down the Virginia side and John swam but not Scott. Everyone agreed it was a great day to be on the river. Gus and Ken paddled down to Fletchers and did a safe shuttle back to Lock 6. The others took out below Little Falls for the long carry back to their cars. We saw something at Fletchers when taking out that we had never seen before. A guy was loading his paddleboard on his car and had a hydro-foil device with a small motor attached to the foil that could be fixed to the underside of his board which could lift his board out of the water. So many water toys, so little time.
