Trip Reports

Sun 25 Oct Paddle - Little Falls @ 2.92 ft
Author Last Post

by Gus Anderson

Mark, Gus, Tarek, Ken and Darren ran Little Falls at 2.92 ft. with light rain and temps in the high 40's. Fortunately the water was surprisingly warm. At this level the waves are steeper, the holes deeper and more rocks come into play. In the first big drop, the top wave was a little too steep to stay on for an RPM. The next good wave above the Beaver Run was perfect for an RPM, and Gus got a good surf on it.  The wave below the Beaver Run was steeper and difficult for an RPM, but Darren in a shorter boat got some long surfs. Mark, Ken and Darren ran LF successfully.  Gus tried his usual left to right chute on the last drop on the Maryland side but the chute was not as smooth as at higher levels, and he dropped into a hole, flipped and swam and got banged on some rocks as he attempted to roll.  Tarek got too far right on the approach, hit the top of the island, flipped and washed down the Virginia side. Nobody was hurt, just a few bruised egos.  We all agreed we were glad we had braved the weather and done the trip.  Gus and Ken paddled to Fletchers, and Mark, Tarek and Darren took out below LF.
