The Force was in harmony today on Bastille Day as we had 3 K1s: Alf, Cotton & Ken Jackson, while in OC1s were Ginny and Garry Quam and your reporter. The 3.2 foot level was a bit low for Anglers to Lock 10 but a bit high for most of us for the parallel Little Falls run. Plenty of surfing at Offutt and Yellow Falls. Everything was quiet on the river although we again spotted Calleva Rafts above Yellow Falls filled with delighted youngsters. Only a select few repaired to Fish Taco for a midday repast.

=============================

Alf Cooley: NB: On the Virginia shore, at the level of Offutts Rapid, a broad yellow scar descends to the river - first observed two weeks ago. While it would be nice to think that Fairfax County is putting in a whitewater paddlers' landing, the less idealistic suggest it is just another landowner thrusting forward for his place in the sun.

 Further, at Lock 10 Landing, 10 pounds of broken glass was removed from the steep bank by the river. It is helpful if we leave heavy trash bags in the downstream cars for this purpose, as this area is frequented by hard drinking hooligans. Said Calleva children were able to exit the river without cutting their feet.
