Today's Thursday Paddle had 13 of us meeting in three different places (not to mention a bicycle shuttle by Chad Dear, our sole SUP artist. Others were Lisa Weed, Gregory M, Barb, Gary & Ginny Quam, Cotton, Miki, Mike K, Paul Mohler, Bob Maxey, Mike Keefe, and I - in 3 canoes, 2 inflatables, and the rest kayaks. Tim Tilson came in from Fairfax City to give us the extra lift to get boats to Great Falls Park - See the result at the end of this report.
The first operation, easing out of Catfish Cove and into the maw of the Potomac S-Turn, was performed successfully by all. We looked into the Rocky Island Cove place designated for the mass start in another couple of days, then moved out to run Wet Bottom Chute. Most deviated from the approved race-course to descend and play in the Center and Virginia Chutes.
Fearing a predicted 3 PM thunderstorm, we left after too little time playing - and lunched at Offutts Rapid. Some play at Yellow Falls, practically none at Stubblefield, and out at Lock 10 - far ahead of a thunderstorm that never came.
Our auto placements and calculations were right on the mark - and no paddler nor boat was left behind as we rolled away from the take-out.
