CANCELED at 3 AM Sun - in the face of predicted rain and tems in the 40s /////// The Sunday Paddlers will return to the George Washington canal this week, a Class I-II trip. We will cross the Potomac to the GW canal on the Virginia side, run the canal, come back across the Potomac and return to Violettes Lock via either the flatwater C&O canal or attaining up Seneca Breaks, thus avoiding the need for a shuttle. Total trip length is about three miles. If there are ten or more paddlers we will endeavor to divide into groups. We will meet at the Violette's Lock parking lot (13948 Violettes Lock Rd, Poolesville MD). The weather is predicted to turn sharply colder on Sunday, highs in the low 50s and cloudy. Please dress appropriately. In view of the cooler weather, we will push back the meeting time to 10:00; Please be prompt. PFDs are required for all; helmets are highly recommended, especially for kayakers. If you need safety equipment, please advise your trip coordinator. The predicted water level is 2.9' on the Little Falls gauge, a moderate level for this section of river.
This will likely be the last trip of the season for the Sunday paddlers. Of course, it is always possible to schedule a Sunday pick-up trip, especially if the weather cooperates. All are encouraged to propose trips. But this will be the last of the regularly scheduled Sunday trip especially aimed at families and beginning paddlers until the 2021 season.
