Sunday Paddle - Violette's Lock/GW Canal
About this event
It’s a GW run!
I apologize for not getting a group email out to the Sunday paddlers, but that functionality on the CCA website was giving me troubles today.
Well, everyone, I gotta tell ya. There just ain’t a lot of options out there for us right now. I’ve been looking at as many options as I can find, and with the current water levels it looks like Antietam Creek and the GW seem to be the only options in play right now, and Antietam is running on the low side. So, I think we’ll go with the GW canal for Sunday’s run via the Violette’s Lock Loop.
I think you all know the run, but for the first timers out there, this is a beautiful 3.6-mile Class I/II run starting and ending at Violette’s Lock. We’ll meet at Violette’s Lock at 9:30 AM. The water level on the Potomac is predicted to be about 3.1 feet, which is pretty good for the GW run. The temperature for Sunday is predicted to be at a low of 63 Degrees, and a high of 88 degrees, and a 75% chance of rain. As you all know, that could change, so we’ll keep our eyes on the weather as we approach the launch time. I’ll notify you of any trip details change due to the weather forecast. No news from me means we are going forward with the trip.
Please note that we will be taking out at Blockhouse point, so please be aware that it may be a little slippery if its super wet. Also, if this is your first time down this section of river, please send me a note so we can discuss it.
Please send me a note at dean@haweslink.net if you plan to participate.
PFDs are required for all. Helmets are required for kayakers using spray skirts and highly recommended for all others. Airbags are strongly encouraged for boats without other means of flotation. If you need safety equipment, please advise the trip coordinator.
Hope to see you there
