An evening with American Whitewater.
Originally called American Whitewater Affiliation, this national organization (of which CCA has long been an affiliate) celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. Distinguishing itself as a powerful and remarkably effective voice for river access and safety, and a clearinghouse for river information, this evening we have an opportunity to learn the details. Our guest speaker will be Kevin Colburn, its National Stewardship Director. Do come listen and ask questions.

Travels in Turkey
Your program chair, Ed Gertler, once again hogs the October slot, this time to introduce you to the wonders of Turkey, a place with big mountains, rushing rivers, friendly locals, and great cuisine. What’s not to like? Tune in and decide for yourself.

CCA Holiday Party, Swap Meet and Pot-Luck Social
Fast and Clean
Back in the 1970s, a bunch of kids in the DC area, many of which were the sons and daughters of CCA members, became fired up, I mean really motivated, to become the best whitewater paddlers in the world, as measured in a sport called whitewater slalom. And their final surge to the top, in 1979, was beautifully and sensitively captured in a documentary titled “Fast and Clean.” Some of the alumni from that group recently rescued the few crumbling copies of the original 16mm work and, lovingly, frame by frame, restored and digitized it into HD perfection, and we want you to see it now on the big screen at Clara Barton. We also hope to have the restorers or creators present for Q&A. For those who can’t make it for the party, we hope to share the film available via Zoom.
Bring a dish to share, bring your boars and gear to swap or sell, bring your family and bring your friends. All are welcome.
Call for future programs
We are always looking for new talent. We are always looking for ideas. If you take pictures or videos and would like to share them, do not be shy. It can be distant locales or you local favorites. If you have a talent to share, then teach us. If you want to share an alternate outdoor sport (like hiking, backpacking, caving) we would enjoy that too.
