Trip Report Roundup: From WV to PA to TX

Heavy rain at the end of May gave us a welcome opportunity to paddle some streams beyond the usual local suspects. An unusual trifecta took place May 28, when the Thursday Paddlers went to three different streams hours from home (Smokehole Canyon, Laurel Hill Creek, and Sideling Hill Creek). A couple days later, paddlers enjoyed the classic Hopeville Canyon. Trip reports celebrating this admittedly short-lived window of rain are presented in this Cruiser.

Presented too is a report on some Pennsylvania paddling in June that took the place of a Georgia trip that didn't happen. Finally, taking us farther from home, Ed Gertler—famed for going places that many of us have never thought to go—tells about his trip to the Sabine River on the Texas-Louisiana border last November (having finally gotten around to writing up his notes).

As well as offering vicarious enjoyment, trip reports are a source of ideas for rivers to target and information about paddling them. You can find many more on the CCA website (from the left pane, Trip Schedules & Reports > Trip Reports). For another great source of ideas and information, see Trip Planning > Trip Coordinator Sheets.
