Wayne McD. offered an alternate Thursday paddle, with high water levels, to Catoctin Creek, MD. He was joined by Barb B., Fred D. and Ginny Q. We met at the takeout, Brookside Inn parking lot at 2732 Jefferson Pike {MD 180} at 12:00. The weather started out quite nice; partly cloudy, mid 50s, but at the end of the run it got cloudy and we got some rain drops. By the takeout it was cold and rainy in the low 40s. We were on before 1:00, off about 3:00. It was bouncy and very fast moving, but nothing more than class I. Went under 4 bridges, not including Bennie’s Hill, but including 180. The put in at Bennies Hill Rd. bridge, river left, had room for a couple vehicles and a short carry to the creek's edge. With permission, we parked at the Brookside Inn for the take out. The take out, river right, was very challenging. It was raining, cold and the takeout was nasty; muddy, brushy and difficult. Fred took out on the steep path up the upstream side of the bridge, which gave him the advantage of bringing his boat right to his car. With permission from the landowners where the rest of us took out (across from the Brookside Inn), we drove to meet and load our boats. A fun day on a creek we don't often get to paddle, and being early spring we saw a few bluebells blooming.
