Upper Antiietam Creek @ 3.51' - April 14, 2024

Wayne gets an A+. He did a great job prepping us for the bigger rapids and made sure the weather was perfect. Memory of this paddle is getting me through a stressful work week. Thx Wayne!

A flotilla of kayaks, duckys, and one open canoe enjoyed a beuatiful spring day on Upper Antietam Creek under blue skies with air temperature nearing 80. Participants included Dana V, the entire Fico family including the PFD-clad dog (a non-paddler), Gordy L, Kathleen S, Pam W, Tony A, and Wayne McD. Level was a pleasant 3.51' (554 cfs). No carnage to report, which is remarkable considering that 1/2 of the group were making a personal first descent and others hadn't been on this hard-to-catch river section in decades. The right channel under Wagaman Rd bridge is obstructed by a large strainer - 1/2 of the group paddled the left channel (also partially obstructed by a strainer), 1/2 put in below the bridge. Wildlife sightings included a golden eagle and an unusually large great blue heron. Also viewed several patches of bluebells, in another welcome sign of spring.
