Little Falls - with SUPs and a Cold Open-Air Bath ...
Author Last Post
First of all, the SUPs were not ours.  Brad Hammer had the bright idea on this 90 degree day to attack LF at 8 AM, and even so, we found two other groups with the same idea.   It was hot, even with the early hour.   Brad, Tim, Wayne, Kevin Cowan, & I.
2.9 ft, tide on the ebb, was more vigorous than I'd remembered, but both Z Channel and Beaver Drop were well watered, three of us scooted down the latter, my finishing up backwards.
Just before the Little Falls proper, a couple of SUP boarders, who were about to do the Big One, invited us to join them in a cool pool they had scooped in the side brook coming out of Dalacarlia Reservoir.  Since the main Potomac was 90 degrees, the 50 cfs coming through was refreshing in the extreme. Then we got to see the guys do the final big rapid standing up - we ogling such a feat for our first time.  One made it, the other fell off in the very lowest rapid - and got right back on.
Also, a set of three or four women came through, headed down the Virginia side.  The last of them bloody near got caught on the Cleaver - only the foaming pillow before it allowed her to slip off to the left between it and Rock Island.  Thank God, for there was nothing we rank intermediates could have done had she wrapped.
Tim, Wayne & I continued on to Fletchers, where we got to use the AWCooley Memorial Traffic Light to make the left turn back to our put-in car.
