Paddling Experience: Minimum – can execute basic strokes (forward, sweep, draw, etc.) on non-moving water. Preferred – some experience on moving water doing eddy turns, peel-outs, ferries.
Location: To be announced, within 1.5 hours of the DC area, dependent on water levels. We will paddle and practice skills on a river with Class 2 and maybe easy Class 3 rapids.
Equipment: Whitewater kayak with floatation, spray-skirt, paddle, coast guard approved PFD, helmet.
Lunch: Bring lunch, water and appropriate clothing for a full day on the river.
Based on curriculum from the American Canoe Association (ACA), this class will help you get comfortable in running and playing rivers with Class 2 and easy Class 3 rapids. Skill practice will include eddy turns, peel-outs, ferries, potentially surfing & attaining. Look forward to having a great time and learning experience!
