Tuesday Skills Session at Lock 6, July 1st, 2025
Peter Ryan

Attendees: Barb Brown, Hildy Fandango, Peter Ryan. Accidental attendee: Anne Kibler

In the second edition of Tuesday’s skills workout, we spent most of our time practicing ferrying and attainment at the top of the feeder canal, with very little gate practice. We challenged each other to reach the highest eddies, and all of us did make the river right upper eddy. There was some surfing in the topmost wave, too. LF gage: 4.1 ft.

Anne, Hildy and I practiced rolling in static and moving water. Anne and Hildy showed the best form and success rate, with Hildy even doing a hand paddle roll in moving water after four attempts. Hildy’s offside roll was very consistent, too. I struggled (head up, of course) some in my newest boat, requiring two bow rescues. More practice to come.

As always, it was fun and rewarding riverworking among friends.

P.S.: It was good to be yelled at by Barb Brown again.
