8/6/25 Wednesday Evening Paddle – Anglers to Lock 10

We had 5 paddlers join us for our Wednesday evening run on the Potomac River from our put in at Old Anglers Inn to our takeout at Lock 10. After shuttling paddlers back and forth we left the beach at Old Anglers Inn at about 6:30. The weather was sunny and a bit on the chilly side, with temps in the low 80s. The water level was at 3.38 ft, and the discharge was 5,150 cfs at the time we put in according to the Little Falls gauge. The group consisted of Mar S., Greg L., Brent H., Natalie H., and Dean Hawes (TC).

We launched at about 6:30 PM and convened the group on the beach just off the put in for introductions and a trip briefing. There were no PFDs on this trip. This water level was a little on the low side, so the river is starting to take on its late summer personality. Offutt waves were runnable, but not very playable. Most of the mid channel rocks are now exposed so it’s starting to get a little boney. Yellow falls was fairly spicy going over the first ledge, and now the secondary ledges are starting to peak through the surface adding a little extra play time to that section. This was actually a pretty good level for Stubblefield falls, making it fun to play around in the waves. The highlight of this trip is that everyone had a fun time, but we did have one out of boat experience. We also had a lot of successful practice rolls.

In terms of statistics, we had 5 happy paddlers, water level = 3.35 ft, CFS = 5,150, Temp 81 degrees, 0 PFDs, 1 out of boat experiences, and 0 injuries. We’ll call it a pretty good day 😊

Unfortunately, Next week’s Wednesday Evening Paddle will be cancelled due to a schedule conflict.
