Sunday Paddle - GW Canal
If you are a member, please log in to access additional, potentially lower registration fee options.
About this event
For the last Sunday paddle of the season, we'll once again run the GW canal from Riley's Lock, taking out at Pennyfield Lock. The river is quite low, projected to be 2.6', with water temperatures around 58°. The forecast is for cloudy skies with morning temperatures in the 60's and a high of 73°. We'll meet at the take-out at Pennyfield Lock at 10:00 AM to set shuttle to the put-in at Riley's Lock.
Since this is a pre-Halloween trip, safe Halloween decorations on boats or helmets are encouraged. Safe means nothing that can snag on a branch that won't rip free easily, and nothing that impedes the paddler's vision, hearing, or movement. That leaves a lot of room for creativity, folks!
This is a Class II trip. Boat control in moving water is essential. Life jackets are required. Helmets are strongly encouraged (mandatory for kayakers). Kayakers should have a sprayskirt. Boats should have flotation. Paddlers are responsible for dressing appropriately for the expected air and water temperatures. In colder weather, paddlers should dress for immersion. Please reach out to the Trip Coordinator with any questions or if you are unfamiliar with the run.
If interested in joining the trip, please contact Lisa Laden at lisaladen@comcast.net. Letting the trip coordinator know you are coming helps with getting a head count and coordinating the shuttle. If you have a last-minute change of plans, please text or call Lisa at 410/206-5779.
