Sunday Paddle - George Washington/Patowmack Canal

This Sunday please plan to meet at the Violette’s Lock parking lot at 8:30 AM to get a good parking spot. We’ll cross the Potomac River above Seneca Breaks, drop down into the GW Canal to run the class I-II rapids, then rejoin the main channel of the Potomac to cross back over to the C&O Canal. This allows us to run a “loop trip” without setting shuttle.

The forecast for Sunday is 76 degrees by 9 am with a projected high of 87. As of Friday morning, there is a small chance of showers around 3pm, but we should be off the water by then if this forecast holds. The Little Falls gauge is projected to be 2.9 feet, which would be a helpful little bump if it pans out.

Please contact the trip coordinator at white.pamela@gmail.com if you plan to attend. If you have any Sunday morning difficulties you can reach me by voice or text at 571.216.4290.

PFDs are required for all paddlers. Helmets are required for kayakers using a spray skirt and are strongly encouraged for others. Airbags are also strongly encouraged for any boats without other means of flotation. If you need safety equipment please reach out to the trip coordinator prior to Sunday morning.
