Sunday Paddle - GW Canal with Soul Trak

About this event

CORRECTION - Please note the corrected email address noted below.
This Sunday we will return to the George Washington canal but with a twist. The CCA has been working with Calleva and Soul Trak to introduce people to kayaking. These folks are working professionals, not teenagers. We’ve invited the Calleva program graduates to join us this Sunday. All have kayaked the GW Canal previously in their class. They will be outfitted by Calleva at Riley’s Lock. Thus, we will meet at 0915 at Pennyfield Lock (12100 Pennyfield Lock Rd, Potomac Md 20854). We will set a shuttle and drive up to Riley's and join the Soul Trakers. We plan to be on the water by 10. After running the GW Canal, some CCA folks will return to Pennyfield. Other CCA folks and the Soul Trak group will return via the C&O canal, portage Violette’s Lock, and continue on to Riley's. If anyone would prefer that option please let Tim Tilson know. The CCA and Calleva are hosting a simple picnic lunch for all paddlers at Riley’s at the conclusion of the trip. If you plan to attend the lunch please let either Tim Tilson or David Cottingham (dcottingham7@icloud.com) know. No RSVP no lunch.

Tim Tilson will be coordinating this trip. Let him know at hmslydia@msn.com if you are planning to attend for the paddle. His home phone (land line) is 703-0273-9436. Cell phone Sunday morning after 0830 is 703-864-0802.

The morning weather forecast indicates an air temp in the mid-60s when we meet and rising to the 80s by midafternoon under partially sunny skies with an easterly wind of 6 mph. The Little Falls gauge is projected to be 2.7.

PFDs are required for all. Helmets are required for kayakers using spray skirts and highly recommended for all others. Airbags are strongly encouraged for boats without other means of flotation. If you need safety equipment, please advise the trip coordinator in advance.
