Sunday Paddle - Remington Section of the Rappahannock

About this event

I’ve been scouring the river gages to track the lingering effects of Hurricane Helena* and have selected the Remington-to-Kelly’s Ford section of the Rappahannock for this Sunday’s trip. This is a 4.6-mile Class 2 paddle, about one level more challenging than our normal George Washington Canal. I would rate it in difficulty as comparable to the Angler’s Inn to Lock 10 section of the Potomac. We will meet at the Rector Tract Boat Launch, 12233 River Rd, Remington at 10:30. As always, please let me know if you will be joining (macinmd1@gmail.com, 443 542 8779).
The morning weather forecast indicates an air temp in the high-60s under sunny skies. The forecast river level is a respectable 4.0’ on the Remington gauge.

PFDs are required for all. Helmets are required for kayakers using spray skirts and highly recommended for all others. Airbags are strongly encouraged for boats without other means of flotation. If you need safety equipment, please advise the trip coordinator in advance.

*There was once a long-running thread on paddle.com in which folks completed the sentence “You might be a paddler if…” As in, “You might be a paddler if your company transfers you to the Midwest for the summer and you realize you will miss your boat way more than your girlfriend.” So another candidate would be “You might be a paddler if you gleefully monitor river gages following a major hurricane completely oblivious to the associated death and destruction.”
