Sunday Paddle - Lower Antietam Creek
About this event
The Sunday forecast for the Little Falls gauge is over 6', which is too hign for the George Washington Canal. Several alternative locations are also too high. However, the Sharpsburg gauge is projected to be 3.2', a good level for lower Antietam Creek. By way of comparison, the level was 3.0' for last week's trip. This is a 5.6-mile Class I trip with one Class II rapid just above the take out. We will run from the Rte. 34 bridge to the mouth at Harpers Ferry Rd.
The rendezvous will be at 10:00 a.m. at the Take Out on Harpers Ferry Rd. where it crosses the creek. (39.4174, -77.7419). There is limited parking at the put in, so maximum consolidation of boats will be in order. Bring a lunch.
The weather forecast is for a high in the low 70s and sunny.
PFDs are required for all. Helmets are required for kayakers using spray skirts and highly recommended for all others. Airbags are strongly encouraged for boats without other means of flotation. If you need safety equipment, please advise the trip coordinator.
Interested folks should contact Wayne McDaniel (macinmd1@gmail.com, 443 542 8779).
