George Washington Canal
About this event
We will again visit the George Washington Canal on Sunday. The C&O Canal has been dewatered early this season in connection with the sewer interceptor project so we will meet at Pennyfield Lock at 9:30 to set shuttle for a run to Riley's Lock. Please contact me at macinmd1@gmail.com or 443 542 8779 if you wish to join the trip. The Little Falls gauge is projected at 2.8', getting to be a bit scrapey. The weather forecast isn't great - high around 60 with the possibility of rain - but we'll hope for the best.
Also, the CCA Fall Picnic is scheduled for the afternoon at Riley's Lock. The picnic organizers have kindly moved the start time forward from 3:00 to 1:00 to be more convenient for the Sunday paddlers. We will leave enough vehicles at Pennyfield to bring all of the boats back up to Riley's at the end of the paddle.
PFDs are required for all. Helmets are required for kayakers using spray skirts and highly recommended for all others. Airbags are strongly encouraged for boats without other means of flotation. If you need safety equipment, please advise the trip coordinator.
