Camera Posted at Anglers to Deter Miscreants or Help Nab Them

The National Park Service has taken a welcome initial step against those who have been pilfering from parked vehicles in the lower "boaters" parking lot at the Anglers put-in over the years. On Dec. 10, Scot Holliday took notice of the camera, ascertained from the NPS that it was for real, taking photos and storing footage, and publicized it on the Potomac Paddlers Facebook page. The camera has already made its bones; Calleva's Steve McKone reports that it helped them to identify the culprit who backed into their bus.

A visit to Anglers Jan. 20 revealed the camera still in place, blinking red light aglow. Unsurprisingly, surveillance cameras were not evident in the other lots, as those have not had the incidence of thefts encountered in the boaters lot. The Club has thanked the NPS for their initiative in combating the theft problem at this very popular put-in.
