Sunday Paddle, July 17 - GW Canal Loop, 3.07 ft.
Author Last Post

We had a total of 16 paddlers on our Sunday morning GW Canal loop. In an array of kayaks we had Kathleen S., Barb B., Gordy L., Toni B., Pam W., Mikey B., Chip L., Bill G., Bob B., Gus A. and John S. In OC-1s we had Tim T., Bob W., Alan G. and Gary and Ginny Q. The gage at Little Falls measured 3.07 ft. and the water temp was a warm 83 and rising. It was pleasantly cloudy, tempering the humid mid 80 degree weather. After an on-the-water group powwow, we headed across the river in a big group. We more or less stayed as one group with smaller buddy teams sticking closer together. Everyone had an enjoyable, upright day, successfully negotiating Diagonal rapid even though the low water level made it rocky as ever. Two logs constricting the line on river right made it even more challenging. An eagle was spotted on the way to the GW Canal and an egret on the trip back across the river. On the paddle back up the canal we saw 15 turtles, 1 water snake, 1 deer and the resident heron. This was a personal first descent for Bill and Chip.
