Little Falls 8/4/22
Author Last Post

We had 14 paddlers on Little Falls on 8/4/22. The level was 3.02’ and it was close to high tide. The weather was hot and steamy. Nine paddlers (Larry and Ginny in OC1s and Mark, Gary, Bruce, Mike, John, Howard, and Anne in K1s) returned to Lock 5 via the canal. Four of this group ran the Beaver Slide on the way down to the main event, where five took the MD side and the other four headed down on the VA side without incident.

Five paddlers decided to go old school and set shuttle at Fletcher’s Cove: In K1s were Wayne McDaniel, Barb Brown and Gus Anderson. In OC1s were Hendrik van Oss and Tim Tilson. We put on at the same time as the main group under Mark B. Everything was pretty uneventful. Although one paddler hadn’t been on Little Fall since before the pandemic. So for him, the run had a high pucker factor. All ran the far left side with the smallish drop due to high tide. By doing the shuttle we avoided the carry and paddle back up the canal. However all agreed that in this heat it was still very enervating. For some a short lunch followed at Fish Tacos and then home for a nap.
