Trip Reports

Lo Yo @ 1.42 ft - 30 June
Alford Cooley

by David Cottingham

Eight adventurous paddlers braved rocks and low water on the Lower Yough on June 30. Two open boaters (Kim Buttleman and Larry Lempert) joined 6 kayakers (Rolando Arrietta, Mark Brennaman, Gary Steinburg, Ginny Thomas, Ned Howenstein, and David Cottingham) on beautiful sunny day with barely a cloud in the sky. Water level of 1.42 was enough for a good technical run. The state park is not running the Bruner Run (take-out) shuttle on weekdays this summer. We set shuttle in the lower parking lot. Wildlife highlights included a couple of wood duck families the ducklings about to fledge and a family of mergansers on a rock. They scattered wildly as we approached. Five of us stopped at Puccini’s fin Cumberland or dinner on our way home. A long day of driving for a wonderful summer day on the LoYo.
