WEDS - Noon - With the Potomac predicted at 5.8 ft for Thursday - and 5.1 for Race Day, it makes no sense to do Mather Gorge at an unsafe level - only to have the Race run from Anglers. Thanks to Alan Gale for pointing out that the Maryland Narrows section is described on the Ron Canter Map as a Class 5 at 6 ft. (Even with a downgrade to Cl. 4 - not something to which I should be subjecting myself or my participants.<br /><br />I shall go over to GOOSE CREEK near Leesburg to join Tim Tilson&#39;s trip - see his announcement on this Calendar. Hope some of you may like to come. Alf <br />*********************************************************************<br /><br />This Thursday Paddle is also a practice run for the Downriver Race, to be run two days later. Meet at Lock 10 at 9:00 to set shuttle, then drive up to Great Falls Tavern, MD for the trek down the Canal to Lock 17 / Sandy Beach Steps. Depending on the water level, get a taste of what it feels like to launch into the maw of S-Turn, at the predicted 5.6 feet (Little Falls) - WE WILL DO THE MARYLAND SIDE CHANNEL - AND MAY CANCEL - REDIRECT THE TRIP.<br /><br />This is not a practice race. We&#39;ll proceed down the varous named rapids, playing wherever we like, Lunch at Offutts Rapid, Take-Out at Lock 10 after a 5-mile run. - Possible to set cars at Carderock.<br />NOTE that the Race will end at Sycamore Island, another (flat) 2.33 miles downstream.
