George Washington Canal - May 1st - CANCELED
Lacking any expression of interest - and given the cold weather predicted - l (57 degrees) & some sprinkles - I (Alf) am pulling the plug (7:00 PM)<br /><br />FORGET THE FOLLOWING:<br />For this week’s trip we will return to the Class II George Washington Canal. We will cross the Potomac to run the canal and then re-cross to return via the C&O Canal, with a possibility of some of the group attempting a main channel attain. Meet at 9:30 am at the Violette’s Lock parking lot, 13948 Violette’s Lock Rd, Poolesville MD. As always, please let the trip coordinator, Alf Cooley, know if you will be joining:<br /><br />AlfCooley@gmail.com - 703 397-6882.<br /><br />The weather forecast is "aA chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm" but the water temperature will still be somewhat low, around 60, so dress accordingly. The forecast river level is 3.8’ on the Little Falls gauge, a moderately high level for this section of river. <br /><br />PFDs are required for all. Helmets are required for kayakers using spray skirts and highly recommended for all others. Airbags are strongly encouraged for boats without other means of flotation. Please dress for water temps, not air temps. If you need safety equipment, please advise the trip coordinator in advance.<br /><br /><br />CCA Covid-19 Guidance<br /><br />Fully vaccinated people can congregate in small groups, share shuttle rides and carpooling together, etc., consistent with CDC Guidelines. <br /><br />For groups that include un-vaccinated people, masks should continue to be worn, consistent with CDC Guidelines. <br /><br />Auto shuttles involving un-vaccinated people<br />• Wear a mask covering mouth and nose while in shuttle vehicles<br />• Open windows to allow for air circulation<br />• Avoid carpooling to distant sites<br />All participants should bring a personal mask to be worn as needed.<br /><br />Do not attend if you think that you may have been in contact with someone with
