July 4th Fireworks Flotilla -- Trip is FULL

Come celebrate our independence with an evening paddle, picnic, and pyrotechnic panorama. This fun event is a 3-mile flatwater paddle (6 mi RT) from Fletcher’s Cove to Theo Roosevelt Island offering unobstructed water views of fireworks and lighted monuments.

Bring your own boat, picnic, chairs, & boat lights. We’ll meet at Fletcher’s parking lot at 5pm, enjoy socializing, eating, festooning our boats with glowsticks, and a participatory reading from the Declaration of Independence Preamble. 7:00pm Put-in for leisurely float together down river with time to anchor and socialize before the first salvo at 9:00.

The paddle back is in the dark. Bring flashlights or headlamps to help negotiate your landing. Part of return paddle is lit by bridges, G-town waterfront, and GW Parkway. Only the final swing into Fletchers is in darkness. Low tide 7:25pm, High at 12:42am,so we'll paddle downstream against tide, tide-neutral on return.

To maintain safety on the water, we will divide up into ‘pods of five boats’ with one person designated as ‘pod coordinator.’ All hands are needed to pitch in and help get your paddling buddies safely ashore at night’s end.

The event hosted by CCA & Loudoun Kayaking Meetup--is quite popular. So numbers are limited and ADVANCE REGISTRATION BY 5PM JULY 2, IS REQUIRED.
UPDATE: AS OF 5PM, FRIDAY JULY 1, TRIP IS ALREADY FULL.

To register, DON'T BOTHER WITH THE REGISTRATION FEATURE, WHICH IS ACTING UP, but email Shae Metcalf (metcalf.sharon@gmail.com). Provide your name and guests names, and boat type. Please consider volunteering for one role below and note volunteer role in email.
•‘Pod Coordinator’ – keep track of a 5-paddler subgroup on river
• Registration table (check-off registrants, collect waivers, hand out glow sticks)
• Assist with boat launch at beginning and take-out at end.

CCA-Shae Metcalf, Metcalf.sharon@gmail.com; and Alf Cooley
