About this event
NOTE: 8 AM start time!!!!
Sunday, June 23rd, we will paddle CCA’s own version of old faithful — the Class I-II GW Loop from Violettes Lock. This is a no-shuttle trip.
The Little Falls gauge should be around 2.9 ft, a moderate level. The real issue for this trip will be the heat. The predicted noon temperature is 96, rising to 98 at 1PM. In order to beat the heat, meet at the Violettes Lock parking lot by 8:00 AM. Assuming no excessive dithering at the put in and no unnecessary dawdling on the river (admittedly optimistic assumptions given some of the usual suspects), it should be in the mid-70s when we put in and in the low 90s as we take out. In other words, the heat will be manageable — but only if folks arrive on time, keep moving at a reasonable pace, and stay well hydrated.
PFDs are required for all. Helmets are required for kayakers using spray skirts and highly recommended for all others. Airbags are strongly encouraged for boats without other means of flotation. If you need safety equipment, please advise the trip coordinator in advance.
